Introducing Printmaker Ellen Heck, Our Latest Artist in Residence at Artica Svalbard
We are excited to welcome Ellen Heck as our newest artist-in-residence at Artica Svalbard for the month of September 2024. Nominated by The Queen Sonja Print Award, Ellen is an accomplished printmaker based in North Carolina, known for her intricate explorations of identity through her work.
For over a decade, Ellen has explored specific questions about identity—its creation, variability, persistence, and change—by combining subject matter with thematically resonant printmaking techniques. Ellen’s thoughtful approach creates visual narratives that both embrace the deeply personal and resonate with broader, universal themes, inviting viewers to reflect on the complexities of self and society.
Ellen has previously participated in residencies at Kala Art Institute, Northern Print, Rockport Center for the Arts, and Scuola Grafica. Artica Svalbard marks her first residency experience in Svalbard, and we look forward to seeing how the Arctic environment will inspire her work.
