Artists Film Screening: Dora García, END (two prologues)

  • Nordover Arts Centre Vei 225 Longyearbyen Svalbard (map)

Dora Garica, END (two prologues) 2024 HD, color, 16:9 26’ 35’’ (film still)

During the summer of 2023, Artica assisted Oslo/Barcelona based artist Dora García with a film project on Svalbard. We are pleased to welcome Dora back to Longyearbyen with representatives from the CNIO art program to present the project and screen the finished film.

Climate catastrophe, human memory and the female voice are intertwined in END (two prologues). Macroecologist David Nogués-Bravo speaks about the challenges of climate change against the breathtaking and fast-changing landscape of Svalbard, while in Oslo Norwegian choreographer Mette Edvardsen goes about her practice of memorising literary texts: this time she memorises the last page of James Joyce's Finnegans Wake, the death of the female protagonist, Anna Livia Plurabelle, who is every woman and every river and every water as it makes its way into the sea through leaves and whispers: "A way a lone a last a loved a long the" .... A poetic reading of human life and life on the planet reaching an end that can briefly be withheld through the recitation of a female voice.

This project is commissioned by National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO) within their CNIO art program.

The event is hosted in English (film: english subtitles) and is free to attend, no booking required.
