Artica Svalbard Welcomes Kamil Kak as New Artist in Residence

Artica Svalbard is delighted to welcome Kamil Kak as our latest resident artist. Currently residing between Oslo and Berlin, Kak is a multidisciplinary artist known for their incisive explorations into queer liberation, immigrant experiences, and the delicacies of historical narratives. Through a vibrant blend of mediums—ranging from printmaking and installations to video performances and ceramics—Kak challenges audiences to reflect on pressing social issues.

During their residency at Artica Svalbard, Kak aims to delve into the geopolitical significance of the archipelago, exploring its role in global politics due to the unique Svalbard Treaty. This setting provides a backdrop for investigating identity, cultural preservation, and community rights amidst the growing international stakes in the Arctic region.

Kak has been nominated by our partner the Office for Contemporary Arts Norway (OCA), and will be staying in Longyearbyen until the end of July.
