We are delighted to share that Artica alumni Jessica MacMillan’s project Time Line will feature in the group exhibition Infinity – Emptiness – Liveliness at the Planetarium in Hamburg, running from 25 January to 31 May 2025. The exhibition explores concepts of boundlessness through artistic, mathematical, and physical perspectives.
First developed during her Artica Svalbard residency in November 2021, Time Line was a striking intervention in the Arctic sky. Using a powerful 10-watt laser, MacMillan marked the exact direction of our solar system’s movement through space. The laser, aimed at the solar apex—located between the constellations of Lyra and Hercules—traced the trajectory of our planet as it spins and travels through the Milky Way.
The exhibition catalogue, featuring nine essays by twelve authors, not only discusses the artworks in the exhibition but also explores themes of polar and space exploration, mathematics, and the history of planetariums.
We congratulate Jessica on this exciting exhibition and look forward to seeing Time Line reach new audiences in Hamburg.
