Bianca Hisse and Christian Danielewitz

Christian Danielewitz, a Danish visual artist, researcher, and writer, and Bianca Hisse, a Brazilian visual artist and choreographer, come together as a collaborative duo whose work spans across multiple disciplines. Their practices focus on geopolitical issues, the extraction of raw materials, digital materialities, and how spaces are choreographed by economic and social forces. Their collective approach combines visual art, research, and performance to critically engage with urgent global and environmental concerns.
During their residency at Artica Svalbard, Christian and Bianca will explore Svalbard as an increasingly contested territory for grey-zone operations. These "grey-zones" refer to hostile activities that occur between the boundaries of war and peace, including the sabotage of critical infrastructure and cyber-attacks. The duo aims to uncover and make visible the invisible battlefields of these operations, researching how geopolitical tensions and environmental vulnerability intersect in Svalbard’s technologically wired landscape. Through their work, they seek to engage with the local context and open up new ways of thinking about these hidden power dynamics.
Bianca Hisse
Bianca Hisse (b. 1994) is a Brazilian visual artist and choreographer based in Oslo. She received an MA from the Art Academy in Tromsø in 2019, and a BA in Performing Arts from Pontificia Universidade Catolica de Sao Paulo in 2016. Her artistic practice investigates how spaces are choreographed by economic and geo-political issues, employing movement and collective performance as tools for imagination and resistance. Her works have been exhibited across Norway and internationally, including: Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art, Finland (2023), Kunsthalle Recklinghausen, Germany (2023), Kunstnernes Hus (2020), Nordnorsk Kunstnersenter (2024), Botkyrka Konsthall (Stockholm, Sweden), MAR Museo - BienalSUR, Argentina (2021), and Mediterranea Biennale 19, San Marino (2021).
Christian Danielewitz
Christian Danielewitz (b. 1978) is a Danish visual artist, researcher and writer. He earned an MFA from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2009 and a PhD in practice-based art research from the University of Copenhagen in 2022. He works across video, photography, performance, sculpture, and installation on issues revolving around raw materials extraction, digital materialities, and the uneven global distribution of toxic waste and pollution. He has most recently exhibited at Lusaka Contemporary Art Centre, RAW Material Company, Dakar, MMCA Changdong, Seoul, He Art Museum, Foshan, and SAVVY Contemporary, Berlin. His works are in the collections of HEART – Herning Museum of Contemporary Art, The Danish Arts Foundation, and Lusaka Contemporary Art Centre.
