120 Hours
July 5th - July 7th 2019
120 Hours is the world's largest architecture competition for and by students. In 2019 nearly 500 contestants from all over the world designed future settlements for Svalbard. The rules were that they only had five days (i.e. 120 hours) to solve the task and that they had to present their proposal on no more that two sheets of A3 paper.
All of the proposals were considered by our eminent jury, which was led by Kjetil Thorsen (Snøhetta), and had representatives from Svalbard, Norway, Hong Kong, and Poland. The exhibition included countless visions of Svalbard 100 years from now.
The 120 Hours team and jury members Anderson Lee (Index Architecture Limited, Hong Kong) and Eli Skatvedt (Artica Svalbard, Longyearbyen) presented the competition.
We would like to thank Longyearbyen Lokalstyre for letting us use one of the houses in the avalanche area that will soon be demolished to host the event.
