Welcome writer in residence Roald Berg

Roald Berg in Longyearbyen, April 2024

Spring is beginning to arrive in Longyearbyen and with it we welcome out next writer in residence, Roald Berg professor emeritus of modern history at the University of Stavanger, working mainly with polar history, foreign and defence policy history. He has contributed to several works on the history of Norwegian foreign policy, defence history and polar history.

During his residency at Artica, Berg will embark on a new book about the history of Norwegian polar imperialism, centred on one of the key players who was around at the turn of the century.

Berg has been nominated by our partner Norsk faglitterær forfatter- og oversetterforening and will be staying in Longyearbyen until June.

Make sure to follow Artica on our social media Facebook / Instagram / twitter for news of upcoming residents talks and workshops.
