A new exhibition entitled The Boat by Svalbard based artist Stein Henningsen opens this Sunday 7th March at Galleri Svalbard.

Henningsen (b.1962) works in photography, print, film and performance. His work explores themes including contemporary political, social, financial or climate issues, in a manner that can often provoke and disturb the viewer. He is also influenced by Svalbard, where he grew up, reflecting on the harsh environment, climate, nature, social behaviours and geopolitics. His performances, often very physical in their approach - handling ice blocks until the hypothermia sets in, dragging a chain through the streets, or throwing himself through a brick wall.

Henningsen has been working at the Artica workshop on a new body of prints for the exhibition which will run until May 15th.
