The Board of Artica Svalbard is pleased to announce that Charlotte Hetherington has been appointed new Director of the organisation. Charlotte joins us from her role as Artist Liaison at Thomas Dane Gallery in London and has fourteen years’ experience working with artists and institutions internationally.

There were 78 applicants for the position of Director and the Board is confident that Charlotte is the right candidate for Artica Svalbard.

“Charlotte has great ambitions for Artica Svalbard, her experience in the arts, her international network and professionalism will help lift the organisation into the future.”

- Anne Berit Figenschau, Chair of the Board

Charlotte takes on the role of Director at a time of many challenges and the Board is confident that it has found the right candidate to manage and develop Artica’s Artist-in-Residence Programme. Charlotte will continue to build upon collaborative projects with the local community of Svalbard, as well as working to increase national and international awareness of Svalbard and the Arctic.

“Artica Svalbard has a unique position not only geographically but also as an organisation for change. By providing spaces for communities to engage in creative activities, open debates and social events, it has brought together not only local residents but also taken local issues to an international audience. I am honoured to lead Artica through this exciting next chapter.”

- says Charlotte Hetherington.

Didrik Paulsen serves as Director until Charlotte Hetherington joins 1st November 2020 for a term of three years.
