NAARCA Residencies 2025 – Call for Applications Now Open
Artica Svalbard, one of the five residencies in NAARCA – the Nordic Alliance of Artists’ Residencies on Climate Action – is pleased to share the open call for its 2025 programme. Applications are now open for artists working in visual arts, craft, or design whose practices engage with sustainability and the climate emergency.
In 2025, the NAARCA network will facilitate two funded residency exchanges, taking place between June and December. Artists based in Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, or Scotland are eligible to apply for a residency in a country other than their own.
The programme supports research, community engagement, and the development of both existing and new projects. It builds on NAARCA’s work since 2021, which has focused on the climate and biodiversity crises, climate justice, and the four pillars of sustainability: ecological, social, psychological, and cultural.
As one of five participating residencies in the NAARCA network, Artica Svalbard will host a six-week residency between October and December 2025. Located in Longyearbyen in the High Arctic, Artica offers a unique opportunity to explore a region experiencing rapid climate change. The residency includes accommodation, workspace, studio access, and 24-hour access to Artica’s workshop facilities. Residents are encouraged to contribute to the local cultural life of Svalbard by sharing their work through public events such as talks, workshops or readings.
Other NAARCA residencies in 2025 include:
Cove Park (Scotland), August 2025
Narsaq International Research Station (Greenland), June–August or September–October 2025
Skaftfell Art Center (Iceland), November–December 2025
Selected artists will receive a residency fee, a materials and equipment allowance, and a travel stipend. The deadline for applications is Friday 25 April 2025 (17:00 Norway time).
NAARCA is supported by the Nordic Culture Fund and The Kone Foundation. For full details and application guidelines, visit this page on the Cove Park website.
