Introduction to Marbling Workshop

Join Artica Svalbard for this Introduction to Marbling workshop where you can learn how to make beautiful papers using this centuries-old marbling technique.

If you love playing with paint or getting creative with paper, this workshop is for you. Marbling is one of the most rewarding and fun crafts out there and you don’t need any prior experience to create amazing pieces of art.

What to Expect from the workshop

During this three-hour workshop, you will be given a introduction to the art of paper marbling, a centuries-old art form where paint is floated upon a bath of thickened water and drawn through with various tools to create striking, fluid patterns. In this marbling workshop, you will learn:

  • How to make the thickened water

  • How to prepare paper for marbling

  • Techniques for controlling the behaviour of the paints

  • How to create all kinds of patterns

  • You will take home 7-9 prints

Artica’s director Charlotte Hetherington will demonstrate various techniques and talk you through how to recreate them yourself. All the tools, equipment and materials are provided. Marbling is great fun but very messy so make sure you wear old clothes!

The workshop is now fully booked, please contact us if you’d like to join the waiting list: workshops@articasvalbard.no  (8 places available)
